Easyjet topped 4 million

The airline easyjet exceeded four million passengers in Portugal, of which half in Lisbon, in the first year based on capital stock "very satisfactory" according to the director Iberian carrier.

Easyjet Portugal car Hire"We are very pleased, fulfill the expectations. Achieved the two million passengers and from Lisbon and the four million passengers in Portugal," said Javier Gandara, at a meeting with journalists. According to the carrier, close to 400,000 passengers are business.

The head of easyjet said the British company low cost "hopes to develop the presence of Easyjet in Lisbon and Portugal", which is the second largest operator with a market share of 20%.

Javier Gandara also recalled that the company started its base with two planes and 70 employees and now has four aircraft and 130 employees.

As for the next winter season, the company has to follow "with the four planes", not having expected to increase accordingly.

The official said he expected growth of 3% in the Portuguese market for 2013, but reiterated that growth may be compromised next year if airport charges continue to rise.

The Director Iberian 'low cost' reiterated that airport charges is a "critical factor in business model", represented nearly 30% of the cost of the carrier "almost as much as what the company spends on fuel," so all increases "have an impact on the ability of growth."

Javier Gandara proved particularly "concerned" with the 4% increase in airport charges in Lisbon in June and then again in January.

"We hope to establish a relationship airport operator to limit its rise. The fact that we are the second largest operator in the Portuguese market, with a share of 20%, has to be taken into account and I think we will be able to convince them," he said.

On the other hand, the director Iberian easyjet again consider "an anomaly" that Portugal does not have at least two operators 'handling' (ground handling of passengers and baggage) independent at each major airport, stressing that such costs represents.

As exemplified previously had Lusa, the Director Iberian 'low cost' gave Faro airport "where there is only one agent 'handling' as well as Lisbon, where there are two, but one of them is owned by the operator airport [Portway, owned by ANA] and the other is owned by TAP. "

As for the Azores, Javier Gandara reiterated the interest on the route, because "this is stagnant for five years," and added that the model used does not have to be exactly the same as the Madeira route.
Since entering the route Funchal in 2008, the average price of flights fell by about 30% to the final consumer, recalled.
